Let’s Play.
And Go Places.
Helping Build America’s Rugby Future
For over 20 years The Loggers have served as the representative side for aspiring boys and girls playing rugby in the Pacific Northwest. Today we represent a continuous, development-focused pathway for young people in the Pacific Northwest to grow and develop towards the highest levels of rugby, and the realization of their full human potential.
Together with regional partners and the Seattle Seawolves we have formed an official rugby pathway to help drive the growth of the sport in the region. This model provides a clear advancement pathway for players who aspire to careers at National and Professional team levels. Please read the exiting details of this new collaborative approach here. The partnership, in conjunction with the Loggers recognition as a USA Rugby National Development Program member, positions players in the region for long-term success.
Over time The Loggers have helped send over 200 players to top collegiate rugby programs, professional or club teams, and international sides. Recent Loggers alumni feature today in the USA age-grade teams, The USA Eagles, England’s Premiership, Major League Rugby, the French Top 14, USA National Collegiate Championship sides, and Senior Clubs.
Rugby Development
Creating Complete Players
Our purpose is to foster the growth and quality of rugby opportunity. For young people, clubs and families we champion rugby’s unique values and character through community and school programming, in partnership with other like-minded organizations.
As of 2020, the Loggers are the USA Rugby National Development Program for aspiring players in the Pacific Northwest.
We have created a continuous, progressive pathway for the development of players and coaches, linking regional youth clubs, university programs and professional rugby organizations.
Through camps, sustained training programs, and ‘rep-side’ matches, boys and girls players aged 12-19 have the opportunity to develop skills; improve strength & conditioning; increase their rugby IQ, and; enjoy challenging competition in a positive, player-centric environment.
We believe ‘rep-side’ rugby means more than the honor of representing your region as an accomplished club player. It is also a recognition that each of us is a continuous work in progress. Loggers players are engaged in an ongoing training + playing program, supplementing their regular school and club season, with an objective of long-term player development.
Loggers History
A Collaboration With Clubs
The original ‘Pacific Northwest Loggers’ were the regional representative side serving aspiring young adults from Washington, Oregon and Idaho on their pathway to the USA National Teams.
Over 20 years ago, a boys high school side emerged, and for many years we played in one annual invitational tournament – against state representative sides from throughout the American West. In 2010 we added girls rugby; expanded to include match opportunities against international touring sides, and; further grew a distinguished rugby 7s program.
In 2014 we deepened our focus on young player development through the addition of a U14s program, now playing Western Canada’s provincial representative sides annually.
In 2018 the Loggers became independent from our SBRO, becoming a not-for-profit organization, staffed by a significant roster of high quality coaches and volunteer administrators.
Over the years we’ve been rewarded in seeing boys and girls Loggers attain their dreams of playing for the USA National Teams, top collegiate programs, adult clubs and professional rugby.
Our Philosophy
Better People Make Better Players
The Loggers are about talent development – not simply talent identification, (or, just ‘being seen’).
Our commitment is to prepare players for the highest levels of competition and personal achievement, with the opportunity to progressively discover, enjoy and excel through rugby in their lives.
We believe North America has the potential to lead the world in rugby. This requires committed, positive partnerships here in the United States, and across the border in Canada. By challenging each other to improve — playing more and higher-quality rugby, earlier in life — we’ve demonstrated our ability to help create USA Eagles.
Like many other sports, rugby teaches goal-setting, commitment, teamwork and discipline. But rugby offers special opportunities to develop – physically, mentally and socially. We believe that rugby is the one pursuit that uniquely and best prepares today's young people for the changing world in which they'll live.
Instead of ‘cutting’ players who aren’t immediately a showcase talent, we’ve expanded our coaching staff, camp programs and match schedules to deliver progressively more challenging programs to players at different levels. By upholding standards, while increasing participation, rugby grows, coaches improve, and players benefit.
A Collaboration of Clubs, Coaches and Families
Scores of young women and men have traded in their Loggers jersey for higher honors after high school. Their success with us is a function of their dedication, and countless hours and sacrifice of families and local club coaches. We’re thrilled to see them now performing at USA’s national age-grades, as internationals and professionals – continuing to develop as fine people. Here are just some of them…
